Join Tatra Photography in Greenland for a Northern Lights special based in the Artic Paradise Ilulissat. The Ilulissat Icefjord is located on the west coast of Greenland 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. The Icefjord is the sea mouth of Sermeq Kujalleq one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland ice cap reaches the sea. The glacier flows about 30 metres per day producing approximately 20 billion tons of ice every year.

Our location is renowned for cold nights and clear skies, which is the perfect recipe to capture the Northern Lights with the sculptures of ice in the fjord. We will also venture out in the evening by dogsled & snowmobile to capture the magic of the Aurora. During this Northern Lights tour of Greenland we will also have opportunity in the daytime to capture all the spectacular towering Icebergs and a boat excursion around Disko bay.

The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are discharged particles from the sun that pass through the magnetic shield of earth and create light when they mix with atoms and molecules such as nitrogen and oxygen gases on entering into the earth’s atmosphere. These particles travel through space towards planet earth being drawn towards the earth’s magnetic north and south polar regions. During periods of strong solar flares the light becomes extremely dynamic producing swirls and flash patterns throughout the sky. The colours merge and flash from greens, reds, yellows and violets.

The sight is awe inspiring. The Aurora Borealis is one of the most incredible natural phenomenon’s you will ever witness and we will be with you every step of the way to capture it all.

On this Northern Lights Iceland special you will receive a masterclass in Aurora photography and all the techniques required from our professional photographer. Each photographer will receive dedicated tuition to capture the Northern Lights and the Icelandic landscape.

We also encourage participants to bring a selection of their work for a review and critique, where our professional tutor will discuss the art of landscape photography composition, how to use the camera to create wow-factor images and how to approach landscape photography with the eye of a pro.

Your tutor for this workshop is Mark Bauer. Mark is one of the UK’s leading landscape photographers. He has been a full-time professional since 2003, and his images have been published in books, magazines and calendars around the world. Mark is represented by several leading image libraries, including the fine art library, Trevillion Images and he is regular contributor the UK photographic press, in particular Digital SLR, Digital Photographer, Photography for Beginners and Landscape Photography Magazine.
